It’s the charity with the very
odd name, the Sick & Indigent
Roomkeepers’ Society, but in
fact it’s the oldest charity in
Dublin, still helping the sick and
the destitute in the inner city. It
was founded in 1790 by a group
of eleven concerned citizens, all
of whom came from what might
be politely called the middle
class of society.
Aphria O’Brien joined as a trustee in 2000, following the footsteps of her mother, aunt and great uncle. She then succeeded her mother to become the 2nd female Chairperson and the youngest to date as a trustee and Chairperson in 2004. In May 2007 she resigned from the Sick and Indigent Roomkeepers Society due to commitments.
Rape Crisis Centre
Concierge Ireland hosts a table at the Miss Candy Lunch each year. The moment it is over we are counting down the days until the next one. Miss Candy (aka Joe Supple) has indeminsible energy and humour. Rebecca Storm and Paul Harrington never cease in the enjoyment that they give on the day.
OBJECTIVE OF THE RAPE CRISIS CENTRE
The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre offers a wide range of services to women and men who are affected by rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment or childhood sexual abuse.
Their aim is to offer help and support to anyone who has experienced sexual violence of any kind. This may have been recently, some years ago or in childhood.
